Lac Leman is the center of our lives here in Geneva; swimming, picnicking, paddling and watching the birds as the sun rises and falls. With so many people surrounding lac Leman, maintaining clean water and biodiversity is a huge challenge. The Association pour la Sauvegarde de lac Leman has been looking out for the lake since 1980. They've been responsible for banning phosphates in cleaning powders, leading the fight against invasive muscles, organizing cross border lake and river cleaning days, and most recently clearing the lake of Japanese Knotwood.
I'd like to invite you to take a morning along the beautiful lakeside of Versoix to give a little back to the lake by helping eradicate the invasive Japanese Knotwood. This beautiful plant introduced to Europe back in the early 1900s emits a toxin in its roots that kills our indigenous plants, grows 4 cms a day and does not provide any helpful habitat for insects and birds.
We will be taking a boat from Eaux-Vives to Versoix. You should bring sturdy shoes and/or waterproof boots. If you have gardening gloves, bring them too. Dress in layers since boat rides tend to be chilly.
