We are on our way to Cairo for a three-day, four-night trip. Partners are welcome!
Below you will find recommended hotels and flight information which you will be responsible for arranging. For those interested, we are looking into hiring a local guide who is a friend of our Egyptian member who moved back to Cairo earlier this year.
Once you’ve read the information below, signed up, and touched base with the organizers; we recommend you book your hotel & flights. The longer you wait, the less availability and higher costs there may be. Keep in mind when we are together, we can book shared airport transfers, tours, dinners, etc.
Visas
A visa is required. Your passport must be valid for six months past our travel time and must have an empty page in which the visa stamp will be placed.
Visa information can be found here: https://evisa-to-egypt.info/egypt-visa-on-arrival/ but we still need to confirm the best way to purchase an e-visa without extra charges, or how to prepare for visa-upon -arrival. It seems the governmental website for e-visas is https://visa2egypt.gov.eg/ More information to come!
Hotels
The Steigenberger Hotel El Tahrir has been recommended. It is a 4-star hotel, centrally located across El Tahrir Square. If you want to share a room with someone, it is possible to book seperate beds.
If you prefer a budget hotel, Swiss Tahrir Downtown Hotel seems to have good reviews, you can book twin beds, and is also near El Tahrir Square.
Logistically these two hotels are close to each other so it will be easy to meet up for tours in the morning. The “committee” has not stayed at these locations so we offer no guarantees of a specific quality.
Flight details:
Roundtrip from Geneva via Zurich to Cairo is currently around CHF570.25 on Swissair.
Departure Geneva, March 23 at 10:35 (a 1 hour 20-minute layover in Zurich), arrival Cairo at 17.50
Departure Cairo, March 27 at 13:00 (1 hour 40-minute layover in Zurich), arrival Geneva 18:50. Or, when booking with Swiss an option might appear as ZHT which is the train from Zurich to Geneva. It's slightly longer but a greener option and CHF 20 cheaper.
Other airlines: Egyptian Air (no Monday departure) but on Friday there is a 9:45 direct flight from Cairo, arrival Geneva 13:05. Or, Easy Jet via Athens.

The Wines of Geneva
Discover the hidden treasures of the Geneva wine region — right in our backyard! This seminar explores the distinctive wines of the Canton of Geneva, Switzerland’s third-largest wine region and one of its most innovative. From indigenous varieties like Chasselas to uniquely Swiss grapes such as Gamaret and Garanoir, we’ll uncover the diversity, history, and terroir that make Geneva wines so special. There will be a special focus on the women winemakers of the region. Join us to taste and learn about the remarkable vineyards that surround our city — and gain a new appreciation for the wines growing just minutes from home.

Steps for Cancer Challenge 2026 May 7-26
For those of you who are new to this event, each year the AIWC creates virtual teams of 10 people to participate in a 20-day steps challenge. Our entry fee goes directly to helping fund Cancer Support Switzerland
Don't be overwhelmed with the following information. Sara and Christine will be able to help you.
The registration process has changed, so carefully read the following:
5,000 steps = about 3 Km, 45 minutes
10,000 steps = about 6 Km, 1hr30
15,000 steps = about 10 Km, >2hrs
3. On Thursday, March 30, you will be notified about your team. At this time you will be given instructions on how to register directly with CancerSupport Switzerland, join your team, and pay CHF 35. You will have one week to do this.
4. Before the Challenge begins, download the Pacer app onto your phone. You do not need a Smart Watch. The Pacer App will record your steps on your phone, or sync from a smart watch. As the day progresses (wherever you are in the world) team steps are tallied, informing you of where your team is placed relative to others, thus creating a gentle competition.
The Steps for Cancer Support Challenge 2026 runs for 20 days between May 7-26.
Questions can be direct to Sara and Christine at aiwcevents@gmail.com. Alternatively, you can visit the Steps Challenge webpage here
We need a minimum of 2 volunteers for each time slot. Please register for one or more slots depending on your availability. The more the merrier!
Come and help with the bi-annual collection of food and hygiene products which takes place in our supermarkets to benefit people in need living in the Canton of Geneva. Limited French is not a problem and instruction will be provided. You just need to be able to greet people with a smile, hand out the shopping bags, show customers the list of needed items and collect the shopping bags once they have been filled.
Toilets are available for us to use at the shop. Thank you for your help! Contact Belinda at belinda_griffths@yahoo.com.sg with questions.
